Plan B: Terraform is a combination of a strategy game and a simulation game, in which our job is to terraform a newly discovered planet. The game was developed by the independent studio Gaddy Games.
Plot
The story of Plan B: Terraform isn't too important. With climate change and its dramatic effects becoming increasingly more difficult to manage, humanity needs to implement the titular Plan B and colonize a different world. Our objective is to terraform a dead planet into a vibrant place Earthly life could settle on.
Mechanics
The gameplay of Plan B: Terraform is showed from the top-down perspective. The game takes place on a large map covered with a hexagonal grid, with the player managing every layer of terraforming the planet. Our duties include mining, processing and transporting natural resources, building various vehicles and machines (such as trucks and trains) as well as constructing structures. The most important of the latter are greenhouse gas factories, which let us modify the planet's atmosphere to suit our needs. Their emissions slowly increase the planet's temperature, causing ice caps to melt, leading to rainfall and the formation of rivers, lakes, seas and oceans.
Once we manage to make the planet suitable for life, we must start planting flora and then colonize it. Although we start the game with only several people, over time the number of colonists grows; soon after our outpost's population reaches millions.
Technical aspects
The visuals of Plan B: Terraform are rather simple, though also colorful, readable and cartoonish. The game's soundtrack is atmospheric and tranquil. One of the title's features is global simulation of factors such as changing temperatures, the natural water cycle or the planet's gradual overgrowth.
