A Polish retro survival horror game from former employees of Techland and CD Projekt RED companies. Phase Zero was inspired by the first installments of the Resident Evil series. We end up in a fictional town, where a virus is turning people into bloodthirsty monsters.

Phase Zero is a survival horror realized in the form of an action-adventure game. It was inspired by the giants of the genre from the PlayStation era, led by the first installments of the Resident Evil series or by the game Silent Hill. The game is the debut project of the independent Polish team SPINA Studio, founded by former employees of companies such as CD Projekt RED and Techland.

Gameplay

In Phase Zero we watch the action from various "cinematic" shots. The game has a structure resembling a TV series, and in each episode we embody one of the two main characters. Controlling Mary and Guy, we explore Flint Peak and confront enemies wandering the streets and building interiors. Puzzles also play an important role here. They require interaction with the environment and searching for objects and using them in a specific way.

Enemies include both people resembling zombies and more grotesque monsters straight from the movie The Thing. We eliminate them mainly be relying on firearms such as pistols or shotguns. Due to the fact that we never have enough ammunition in the game, we often have to try to avoid enemies or flee from them when we fire the last round.

Story

Phase Zero takes us to the fictional port town of Flint Peak. In the winter of 1994, this place was overtaken by a mysterious plague causing mutations in living beings and covering organic surfaces with tissue. Reporter May and engineer Guy show up in the middle of this chaos. They have to face the threat, trying to survive until dawn.
