Monument Valley 2
Puzzle
May 30, 2017
The second entry in the popular series of puzzle games developed by an independent studio ustwo. The title features a completely new plot, in which the player learns about the fate of a mother who travels with her child through a fantasy world. The gameplay mechanics are based on the ones employed in the first entry in the series – the player is tasked with guiding both characters from one place to another, frequently by manipulating the environment, playing with perspective or by creating optical illusions. It is worth mentioning that the presence of two characters makes solving riddles in Monument Valley 2 slightly different than previously. Despite that, the users that played the previous game should feel familiar in the new entry. The title features high-quality graphics inspired by the works of M.C. Escher.

Old Man's Journey
Adventure
May 18, 2017
Old Man's Journey is an adventure game developed by the independent studio Broken Rules. The game's protagonist is a bearded elderly man who goes on the titular journey in order to meet with his family. The plot is told only through a series of pictures. As we play, we get to know the most important moments of our protagonist's life. We explore various areas in Old Man's Journey, like small towns, river valleys, and even mountain tops. Although the game is in 2D, the locations have something from the third dimension in them. Our hero can go deep into the visited places, but to do so, he has to solve a more or less complicated puzzle based on changing the terrain's topography. For example, creating a hill can lead to the creation of a bridge, or creating a valley can give us access to a previously blocked area of the map. That's how we get rid of various obstacles and traps that await our elderly hero. The game has eye-pleasing visuals that bring to mind illustrations from children's books. Old Man's Journey also has a melancholic, instrumental soundtrack.
Gorogoa
Puzzle
December 14, 2017
An unusual logic game developed by Buried Signal. The game was created by Jason Roberts, who was responsible both for the code and for the visuals of the title. The main protagonist of Gorogoa is a boy who collects mysterious items related to religion. The story of the game is filled with symbols and abstract references to faiths from all over the world. The key aspect of gameplay is solving riddles that take the form of movable puzzles that consist of up to four scenes. What makes things more complicated is the fact that the player isn’t matching parts of a single image, but motives hidden in each scene. If combined correctly, the pictures will be animated, creating a key scene and pushing the story forward. Gorogoa distinguishes itself with unique mechanics and unusual graphics that look like an animated, hand-colored drawing.
