Panzer General is a turn-based strategy game that throws us into the whirlwind of events known in history as the Second World War. The SSI product is, in a sense, unique because it is entirely dedicated to the Nazis, and this is extremely rare in computer games.
The game was divided into five separate campaigns, corresponding to specific periods of war. Conducting the Wehrmacht army, we will have the opportunity to take part in the German offensive against Poland (1939), fight for strategic positions in North Africa (1941), participate in the Barbarossa operation (1941), defend Italian lands (1943) and launch an attack on Soviet positions near Kharkiv (1943). Each scenario included in the campaign can also be played separately, using the appropriate menu option. Individual missions are the only opportunity in this game to stand on the side of the Allies, in addition to the set of loose scenarios there are also those hypothetical, such as the landing of German troops in the vicinity of Washington.
In order to complete the scenario successfully, you have to complete the task in a certain number of turns. The number of the latter depends on the level of difficulty chosen before the start of the mission. Proper gameplay consists in moving units around the map and attacking the enemy's position. The result of each skirmish depends on many factors, from the means used in the fight to the relief of the terrain. Weather conditions are also an extremely important factor, which at the least expected moment can hinder the movement of troops, or even prevent them from moving at all. In campaign mode, the purchase of people or equipment was also shortened. Each unit costs a certain amount of prestige points, which we earn by completing successive missions.
Panzer General has an extensive menu in which, by changing any aspect of the game, we can make it easier or more difficult to play. The game is extensive in every respect. The number of units will shake the hands of all World War II enthusiasts, and it should be emphasized that the program is not only limited to ground troops, but also air and sea troops. The audiovisual setting is another very strong point of the game. Increased resolution and meticulously crafted icons depicting individuals, arouses great admiration. Land maps and simple and legible menus also look good. In the game we will hear excellent soundtrack, with warm up music and a lot of tasteful samples. Without a doubt, Panzer General is one of the best strategy games ever released. An obligatory position for every fan of the genre.
