Overwhelm Description
OVERWHELM is a dynamic action game with traits of platform games and horror games. It is the first game developed by Ruari O’Sullivan, an independent developer. It was published by Untitled Publisher. The game was presented and published during the E3 2018. The game was inspired by the legendary series Mega Man.
Mechanics
OVERWHELM uses the convention of a two-dimensional platform game. The game takes place in a large world that consists of five segments. At the end of each segment, the player must face a powerful boss. Once the boss is defeated, the regular enemies on the map gain specific bonus attacks and become stronger. The enemies can surprise the players and attack them from many directions simultaneously.
The combat is based on using guns. The character is controlled with a gamepad or mouse and keyboard. The protagonist has only three lives – each is lost after a single blow received from the enemy. Once all lives are lost, the game must be started from the beginning.
Technical aspects
OVERWHELM features classic two-dimensional graphics inspired by 8-bit games. The developer used a limited color palette dominated by red, black and white colors.
