Nintendo Life: 6 / 10 by Oliver Reynolds
Out of Line tries to straddle the line between being an emotional narrative-driven experience and a consistently engaging, challenging puzzle game; unfortunately, it struggles to accomplish either. Far from a bad game, we'd absolutely recommend Out of Line for the younger audience who may want to dip their feet into the puzzle platform genre, but for those seeking something a bit more taxing, then you might be better off looking elsewhere.
KeenGamer: 7.7 / 10 by Max Fagandini
In puzzle-platformer Out of Line, young San is on the run from corrupted abominations, with nothing but a golden spear to his name. Will you be able to help him escape and meet some other friendly faces along the way, or will the blight claim him too?
Softpedia: 6.5 / 10 by Cosmin Vasile
That being said, I would recommend the game to those who aren't looking for overly complex puzzles and a deep, meaningful story. Out of Line is one of those games that won't challenge puzzle enthusiasts nor appease players looking for an appealing narrative.
Out of Line Description
Out of Line is a platform game with adventure game elements. It was developed by an independent Portuguese studio Nerd Monkeys and was published by Hatinh Interactive.
Plot
The main character of Out of Line is a boy named San. During the game we follow the protagonist in his escape from the factory, which used to be his home. The case is not easy, because the facility has been taken over by a sinister entity. Fortunately, our protagonist is not alone and is not defenseless - he can count on the help of his allies and deal with any adversities encountered with the help of his javelin.
Mechanics
Out of Line is a side-scroller. Traversing various locations, we have to show not only dexterity, but also ingenuity. The former comes in handy while overcoming terrain obstacles and jumping on platforms, while a sharp mind is necessary to solve numerous environmental puzzles. To deal with the puzzles, we have to use the javelin, with which we interact with the environment; we can, for example, use it as a lever or throw it at hard to reach switches. As San can't fight, he often has to dodge the enemies he encounters on his way. As the protagonist progresses, he also encounters friendly characters who are willing to help him in his perilous crossing.
Technical aspects
The graphic design of Out of Line was kept in the original style, which makes this production similar to a painting painted with watercolors.
