ORION: Dino Beatdown for PC is a cooperation-oriented shooter that pits us against dinosaurs. The title was created by Spiral Game Studios. The development team included people responsible for such games as Unreal Tournament, Forza Motorsport, Halo, or Borderlands. ORION brand was forged with Half-Life 2 modification called ORION: Source.
Gameplay
ORION: Dino Beatdown takes us to the future, forcing us to fight against hordes of dinosaurs on an alien planet. The game world is open, and is comprised of three vast locations (desert, forest, and savannah) filled with various objects. During the gameplay, we act alone or as a part of a group – the team can be comprised of up to five players. The developers prepared a large set of tasks that encourage the players to continue their playthroughs and point to new objectives.
Each of the players takes control of a character representing one of the three classes – Assault, Support, or Recon. By completing missions and killing enemies – different kinds of dinosaurs – we acquire credits that can be spent on new abilities, weapons, upgrades, or vehicles (delivered to a chosen spot). The dangerous areas can be traversed using vehicles such as buggies, mechs, tanks, or flying machines.
The gameplay of ORION introduces a number of interesting gadgets assigned to each class – healing turrets for medics, jetpacks and camouflages. The players can use a number of powerful weapons: shotguns, rifles, rocket launchers or laser cannons. In total, we are left with 15 firearms and few extra items and grenades.
Technical aspects
Released on PC, ORION: Dino Beatdown was created by a relatively small studio, but even so, it can surprise the players with pleasant visuals. The developers focused on fresh colors, a lot of special effects, and simple, but nicely done locations. The animations of the enemies – especially the huge T-Rexes or smaller Raptors – are definitely a highlight of the game. The game includes a cooperation mode for 5 players.
