Borderlands Description
Borderlands for PC, X360 and PS3 combines characteristics of first person shooters and RPGs together. The game is set in an unspecified period in the future. The player eliminates large groups of enemies using different weapons in the first person perspective, developing the character and selecting the appropriate parts of equipment for them. The game was created by the well-known Gearbox Software, the creators of a series of classic tactical shooters – Brothers in Arms.
Mechanics
Borderlands for PC, X360 and PS3 offers the players a post-apocalyptic scenery. The game makes vivid references to the Mad Max film trilogy. The Pandora planet colonized by humans is inhabited by powerful creatures as well. The player assumes the role of one of four available characters and undertakes subsequent assignments requiring them to eliminate a specified group of enemies mostly. The game allows to create weapons made of dozens of parts, so each gun can be slightly different. Vehicles are an important aspect of the game as well, for the players are capable of driving them.
As the player progresses, their character gets stronger and acquires new skills. Although the game features a single-player campaign, a strong emphasis was placed on the multiplayer mode. Up to four players can meet in a co-op session. Moreover, the players are allowed both to join and leave sessions in progress. One player begins a session as a host, and others can join them with treasures already hunted and developed characters. When played solo, NPCs accompany the player instead. They provide support in more difficult situations, and the player chooses their specialties in particular missions and can give simple orders to them. Also, the player decides about their path of development and selects their equipment.
