Norse

Strategy | turn-based | tactical | RPG elements | indie games | the Vikings

Norse Release Date

Norse is a turn-based strategy with RPG elements, which allows us to direct a community of Vikings. The production was developed by the independent Norwegian studio Arctic Hazard, in existence since 2010.

The plot

The script of the Norse game was signed by the esteemed English writer and singer - Giles Kristian - whose portfolio includes a number of thematically related novels.

The production takes us to Europe from the time when the continent (especially in the north) was rampant with bands of Vikings, and more precisely - to Norway torn by conflicts waged by rival clans. When Steinarr Far-Spear murders his father, Jarl Gripr, and decimates his subjects, the main character of the game - Gunnar - decides to take revenge on him for his heinous deeds. First, however, the protagonist will have to ensure the survival of himself and the band of warriors at the head of which he will have to stand.

Gameplay

Gameplay in Norse is based on two main pillars, the first of which is building a settlement. By gathering resources and erecting more buildings, we watch our village grow in sight, attracting more and more specialized settlers. In addition, the headquarters provides Gunnar and his band with shelter and access to advanced equipment and various upgrades.

The latter come in handy especially when the second pillar of fun comes into play, which is turn-based skirmishes with enemy forces. Watching the battlefields from a bird's eye view, we have to make decisions of tactical importance, properly positioning individual units and skillfully using their strengths.

Our sub-commanders represent classes differentiated by their preferred weaponry and fighting style. While Drengr is a front-line warrior, Berserkr attacks in a wild and unpredictable manner, Hersir commands and encourages allies while instilling fear in adversaries, Bogmathr stalks targets with a bow, while Rekkr makes excellent use of his axe with which he launches area attacks and destroys armor.

Engine

Norse runs on the Unreal Engine.
