No Thing, released on PC, AND, etc., is a surreal arcade game. It was developed by Polish studio Evil Indie Games.
Plot
The action of No Thing takes place in 1994, but the presented version of those times differs from the real ones. The authors offer a gloomy retrofuturistic atmosphere, showing a vision of the future, presented by the movies from the 1970s.
The game is set in a totalitarian regime trying to stifle all rebels. We play the role of an ordinary office employee, who receives the task of delivering a message to a person known as the Ice Queen.
Mechanics
In terms of gameplay mechanics, No Thing is a relatively classic runner game. We observe the action from the eyes of the hero, and our character automatically rushes forward through narrow paths suspended in the air. The player's task is to turn right or left at the right moments to stay on the path and avoid falling or hitting obstacles.
No Thing offers a story campaign with a twisted screenplay. There is also an endless mode where you run through randomly generated and endless levels. In this mode, winning is impossible and all the fun comes down to trying to get as far as possible.
Technical aspects
No Thing offers a surrealistic graphic design, built mostly with monochromatic vectors. Apart from abstract solids, we also encounter many elements from Polish reality, such as residential blocks made of big plates, Polonez cars or the Warsaw mermaid.
The gameplay is accompanied by a soundtrack consisting of coldwave music.
