Nidhogg 2 is an action game developed by Mark “Messhof” Essen, the same person who created the series’ first installment that was released in 2014. The game uses the same gameplay mechanics as its predecessor. Once again we get a 2D action game where we take part in duels on vast, tiered levels similar to those from typical platform games. We can play against A.I. or other players through online or split-screen multiplayer.

Nidhogg 2 for PC and PS4 is an action game developed by Mark “Messhof” Essen, the same person who created the series’ first installment that was released in 2014. This time, he was joined by other developers, making Nidhogg 2 a more complex project.

Mechanics

Nidhogg 2 for PC and PS4 is based on the same gameplay mechanics as its predecessor. We once again get a 2D action game where we take part in duels on vast, tiered levels similar to those from many platform games. As usual, only a single accurate hit is enough to kill our opponent.

The game, however, comes with some novelties. Firt Nidhogg allowed us to use only swords. We could also throw them at our opponent and fight with our fists. The sequel offers a wider arsenal where, among other weapons, we will find bows and axes. We can also use new attacks and finishers. The game also offers more maps that are now more interactive, giving us new possibilities of eliminating our opponents.

Technical Aspects

Nidhogg 2 for PC and PS4 has a different graphical style than the previous game. The first Nidhogg had unusual minimalistic visuals that combine 8-bit technology with modern character and area design. The sequel looks more like a 16-bit game with more detailed backgrounds. All of the available charcters look like grotesque muppets, which combined with the game’s high dose of brutality, creates a rather peculiar combination.
