New Gundam Breaker

New Gundam Breaker is the fourth entry in the Gundam Breaker series that was established in 2013 on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. The new game is the first entry in the series that was released on PC.

Mechanics

Similarly to the previous entries in the series, the game is a three-dimensional brawler. During the game, the player controls a Gunpla – a toy robot model known from the famous anime Gundam. These toys are sold since 1980. New Gundam Breaker features nearly all robots used in previous entries in the series and a few new ones. The only exceptions are SD Gundam models that aren’t present in the game.

The gameplay mechanics weren’t greatly changed. The gameplay focuses on 3vs3 duels during which the players must fight and complete tasks received from the game. The battles can take place for example in a shop or in a factory, on large arenas that enable the players to move in all directions. The combat is action-based and it requires using various tactics. In New Gundam Breaker the developers used special interior frames known from modern sets of MG/RG/PG Gundam. They are the base of the robots and they can impact their skills and role in the team.

Because the players are controlling toys, the ability to customize them is an important aspect of the game. The players can create their units by changing and painting various parts like legs or weapons. New parts can be bought in a special shop or they can be obtained from the defeated enemies.

Game modes

The game features a singleplayer story campaign and the above-mentioned 3 vs. 3 cooperation multiplayer mode.

Technical aspects

New Gundam Breaker is powered by Unreal Engine 4. Toy models and their parts were precisely recreated and the arenas are varied. Sadly, the latter are also sterile and they lack destructible objects.
