Monkey King: Master of the Clouds Description
Monkey King: Master of the Clouds is a refreshed version of the shoot'em up known in the west as Cloud Master, which debuted in 1989 on arcade machines and over time has been ported for a variety of stationary consoles. The remaster described here, created by Starfish and published by Retroism, appeared on PS4, PC and Switch, among others.
Plot
Although the plot does not play a particularly important role in Monkey King: Master of the Clouds. It is worth noting that it is full of references to Chinese legends and literature. We play the role of Mike Chen, who, like the Monkey King of the Journey to the West (one of the four classic novels from China by Wu Cheng'en), travels on a flying cloud, facing enemies inspired by the heroes of Chinese myths.
Mechanics
In Monkey King: Master of the Clouds we observe the action from the side. The game features five arenas in which we face different opponents, both common opponents as well as much more powerful bosses. The protagonist eliminates enemies by firing balls of energy, and his combat potential increases with power-ups he finds along the way. What's more, in the course of the game we gain credits, which can be exchanged for special bombs.
Game modes
In Monkey King: Master of the Clouds can be played both solo and with a second player in a local cooperation mode. In addition, you can boast of your results on online leaderboards.
Technical aspects
In Monkey King: Master of the Clouds the devs raised the resolution of the two-dimensional graphics of the original. Although the game still takes the 4:3 aspect ratio, it has been adapted to widescreen displays; the free space on the sides of the screen has been filled not only with atmospheric illustrations but also with user interface elements.
