MLB: The Show 23 is the eighteenth installment in a sports simulator series based on American MLB (Major League Baseball). It was developed with both eighth and ninth generation consoles in mind, offering cross-play and transfering save states between platforms.
It was developed by San Diego Studio, a team being part of Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Mechanics
In this new installment the popular sports sim series we can directly participate in the matches, making use of the best baseball players' traits to gain an advantage. The difficulty level can be adjusted, letting us decide how realistic and challenging the game should be.
Fans of statistics and tactics will benefit from the ability to manage the team between the matches. The game features real teams, players and stadiums known from MLB. It also lets us create our own players as well.
Game modes
Following MLB: The Show's footsteps, this installment features singleplayer modes, as well as co-op and multiplayer ones.
MLB: The Show 23 features a story campaign created with alongside The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, dedicated to players of an African-American league founded in the United States during the era of racial segregation. The featured scenarios let you take part in the most important matches in the careers of 23 different players, including Hilton Smith, Leroy "Satchel" Paige, Hank Thompson and John Donaldson. Along with The Negro Leagues, historic stadiums such as Muehlebach Field, Comiskey Park and Bush Stadium make their debut in the game.
The Diamond Dynasty mode returns as well, still revolving around collecting basebeall cards and creating a unique team. The roster includes both current MLB players and the greatest stars in the league's history.
Technical aspects
MLB: The Show 23 features many technological improvements on the ninth generation consoles, including smooth 60 FPS and 4K resolution. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions also include the Stadium Creator mode, allowing for the creation of your own baseball stadiums.
