Might and Magic III: Isles of Terra for PC is the third installment of the RPG series created by Jon Van Canghem and New World Computing. It is also another chapter of the saga of Sheltem and Corak whom we followed in two previous games of the franchise.
Plot
The vile Sheltem, whom we pursued in two previous games, finally gets to the world of Terra where he initially reigned. Meanwhile, Corak, tirelessly following him, meets a completely new party of adventurers who hail from Sheltem’s motherland. In this way, Sir Caneghem, Crag Hack, Maximus, Resurrectra, Dark Shade, Kastore, Robert the Wise, and Tolberti become involved in a long-lasting conflict between the two Guardians. Traversing the Terra islands, the heroes discover intriguing facts about the planet’s past as well as the true reason behind the mutual hatred between Sheltem and Corak.
Mechanics
In Might and Magic III: Isles of Terra, contrary to its predecessors, we control a party of premade adventurers. In the bottom of the screen, we can see character portraits, commonly used in more contemporary RPGs, that let us easily access their traits, equipment, spells, and so on. Furthermore, we can see approaching enemies from afar which lets us avoid a direct confrontation or devise a tactic for the battle ahead. The possibility of saving the game at any moment is an important innovation in Might and Magic III for PC. Previously, it was only possible in cities.
Technical aspects
Thanks to the advancement of personal computers, Might and Magic III boasted significantly better visuals in comparison with its predecessors. The title used more colorful and detailed VGA graphics that made the interface as well as the three-dimensional world clearer. Thanks to the support for then-modern sound carts, the title featured brilliant sound effects, background music, and even digitalized speech. The developers also introduced mouse support which made the controls more comfortable and infused the game with incredible playability.
