Metropolisim emphasizes real representation of all aspects of a city's operations. The player must plan expansion, maintain the functionality of the buildings, take care of the welfare of the residents and ensure financial fluidity.
The whole city consists of four zones - residential, commercial, technological and industrial. Each of them has specific density grades, which influence the degree of advancement of the structure. With time, the inhabitants start to demand access to services. In order to provide them, a number of strategic buildings, such as fire brigades and medical facilities, should also be located in the metropolitan area.
An important aspect of the game is also the creation of an efficient road network. Residents will constantly move around the city, using cars and public transport. Traffic is affected by the time of day when more vehicles leave the streets at certain times.
It is also important to take care of the city's finances. The players must balance the economy by imposing taxes and planning subsequent buildings accordingly.
Metropolisim emphasizes the importance of faithful reconstruction of the functioning of cities. The title enables the creation of a metropolis, in which up to 10 million citizens can live at the same time, each with its own individual daily plan. The visuals adopt a minimalist style.
