Originally released on the PlayStation in 1999, the game is only available in digital form as part of PSOne Classics.

Metal Gear Solid: Special Missions is a suite of additional missions to the PSX bestselling game , the next installment of Hideo Kojima's tactical action game series, which has been refreshed after years. The extension requires a basic version of Metal Gear Solid to work.

The plugin focuses on a special VR Mode training mode introduced in the basic game. It takes players to a virtual reality where they can train their fighting and creeping skills. Among the 300 missions of enlargement, however, we will also find less conventional tasks, such as mysterious murders, battles against giant cyber-soldiers and three missions in which the player takes on the role of a cyber ninja.

Special Missions is also dedicated game content. The album features trailers and a special "photoshoot" mode, where players can take a photo shoot with Mei Ling and Naomi characters known from the game. Completion of all 300 missions unblocks the conceptual graphics of Metal Gear RAYa - a moss, which we can meet in the next installment of the Metal Gear Solid 2 series: Sons of Liberty.

Special Missions was originally released in Japan as part of the Metal Gear Solid: Integral package, which includes an improved version of the original, enriched with a whole host of additional materials. Outside the ocean, the game was released as Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions and unlike the PAL version, it does not require a basic version of MGS to work.
