Metacell is the first game of John Posey - Chris Goodrich, the founders of the independent studio Products for Roborts. Production is an attempt to combine a match-3 puzzle. (combine three elements), arcade shooting and cRPG.
The plot of the game presents events taking place in distant corners of the Cosmos. Scientists of the Galactic Empire manage to find a way to transition to an alternative Universe, which they suppose is heaven. Unfortunately, the missionary ship Zion sent there is attacked by a dangerous being called Metacella. Worse still, a being can get through the transition between dimensions. Paladin Dominic Moore and his faithful companions are making a desperate attempt to save the Galaxy.
The creators of the game have prepared a total of 99 boards on which the player has to face the title Metacell. The game consists in directing a small spacecraft orbiting around giant cells with a red eye and colorful elements resembling atoms. When firing projectiles of the right colour, the player must combine at least three identical elements to eliminate them. The difficulty is the fact that the cosmic being is not passive and tries to neutralize the threatening vehicle in various ways.
Metacell's visuals are based on two-dimensional graphics with hand drawn backgrounds. On the soundtrack of the game there are songs composed and performed by Space Vikings.
