The sequel to the mobile, old school RPG dungeon crawler. In Mazes of Karradash 2, the player returns to the fantasy world known from the previous game. Once again, the inhabitants of that world are threatened by monsters crawling out from the ruins in the oldest part of the city. The player assumes the role of a leader of a group of treasure-hungry adventurers who are hired to investigate the case and neutralize the threat.
Mazes of Karradash 2 for AND and iOS is a continuation of a popular mobile dungeon crawler, developed by 68K – the team responsible for the first installment. The game is a premium release i.e. paid title without any microtransactions.
Plot
The game doesn’t offer a complex plot. The story is rather simple, and serves just as a pretext to begin the game, rather than being its integral part. The campaign throws us yet again to the city of Karradash known from the previous installment. The travellers and inhabitants of the city are preyed upon by monsters which seem to grow more and more reckless. A short investigation by the city watch shows that beasts emerge from the ruins located in the oldest part of the city. The players assume the role of the leader of a band of adventurers who are hired to get rid of the danger.
Mechanics
Mazes of Karradash 2 for AND and iOS takes a typical dungeon crawler, and re-introduces it in a modern, accessible style. As a result, we receive a vast dungeon consisting of 20 floors, first person perspective, a party, turn-based combat and scene-to-scene movement. The authors also included a character development module, while the gameplay is sometimes crisscrossed by inventive puzzles. Unlike the previous installment, the dungeons were designed by the developers from start to finish, rather than being randomly generated. Interestingly enough, this move has brought new quality to the game, as the maps have been enlarged, are more interesting, and contain more detail, making journeys more satisfying.
Mazes of Karradash 2 is characterized by its high difficulty level. Death is only a few wrong moves away at all times – each death is permanent, too. However, this doesn’t end the game, as the deceased are replaced by their descendants. The gameplay is complemented by strategy game elements, which are rarely seen in this genre. From time to time, we return to the surface – not only to replenish our health and resupply. We can invest the valuables in the development of the city. We construct buildings and buy numerous upgrades, achieving access to new abilities and equipment, facilitating the journey for the next generations of adventurers.
