Mayan Death Robots is a tactical action game representing the genre of artillery games, the most famous of which is the Worms series. The work of the independent team Sileni Studios debuted on PC in 2015, and two years later it was also released on Xbox One (as Mayan Death Robots: Arena).

Story

In Mayan Death Robots, the story layer ends up in the background. The action of this game takes place in the land of the ancient Maya. They have fallen victim to space machines that have decided to wage a war on the territory occupied by the Maya.

Mechanics

In Mayan Death Robots we observe the action from the side. In the course of the game, we take control of one of ten machines with unique features, abilities and an arsenal, which we put up to use when fighting our opponents. The game consists of battles - the aim of the fight is to destroy the energy core belonging to the enemy. Unlike in the aforementioned Worms, individual players do not perform the action in turns - instead, within one turn they act simultaneously, for example by aiming a weapon (which will shoot when the countdown is over) or by moving around the map.

We have a varied arsenal at our disposal - in battles we can use both conventional weapons (such as buzz saws, rockets and explosives), as well as more sophisticated armament (like explosive bananas or tornadoes). It is not uncommon to take advantage of the fact that two-dimensional arenas are susceptible to damage and modification - while explosions destroy the ground and walls, with the help of the so-called Construction Gun we can build fortifications or platforms; the latter enable us to, among other things, get to the half of the map occupied by the opponent. It is worth remembering that access to new robots and subsequent battle scenarios is unlocked by performing missions from the campaign.

Interestingly, the Maya worship the title machines like gods, which arouses jealousy of real deities like Kukulkan. This is why from time to time they descend to Earth to put an end to our actions. In order to eliminate such a boss, battle participants must join forces in order to return to the original fight after winning the battle.

Game modes

Mayan Death Robots can be played both solo (facing opponents controlled by artificial intelligence) and in the company of other players. The game enables us to play a single duel or an entire tournament, as well as the aforementioned campaign.

It should be noted that the PC version also supports multiplayer on a shared screen, while the console edition also allows for online gameplay.

Technical aspects

Mayan Death Robots /i> features decent two-dimensional graphics - all in an eye-catching, cartoonish design.
