M.A.V.

M.A.V. for PC is a mech simulator inspired by console-released Chromehounds, and a debut production of independent Bomb Dog Studios.

Plot

The action of the game takes place in distant future, where the battles involving large battle mechs are increasingly common. M.A.V. is a multiplayer-oriented game – the game contains an extensive singleplayer campaign, which is however closely entwined with online matches. The players enjoying the campaign can enable multiplayer functionalities at any moment, and take part in an online battle.

Mechanics

The battles themselves take place on spacious maps with an area of many square kilometers, while combat is tactical in nature. As a result, we won’t be able to stride around the map and dodge projectiles through side-stepping, as the mechs in game are more similar to futuristic tanks – seriously armed and heavily armored, but slow and immobile. Each hit counts, while the key to success is to employ different strategic maneuvers and make use of various land formations.

Outside of the battlefield, each player will spend extended amounts of time in the garage that enables us to build and modify our robot. This part of the game is incredibly developed – each pilot builds his machine from the ground up, brick by brick. We choose each part of the machine by ourselves, even building some of the parts from smaller components. For example, when preparing the armament, we can just assemble a ready-made sniper rifle. However, a more ambitious player will delve into the subject, and choose a type of barrel and clip, as well as an adequate scope. Interestingly enough, all components have numerous variations, including local and experimental versions.
