Maupiti Island is a very extensive adventure game from 1990, produced by Lankhor. The main character of the game is Jerome Lange, a private detective who, protecting himself from a hurricane called Harry, lands on the title island. Shortly after descending to the shore, it turns out that he will not be allowed to wait for the terrible weather in peace and quiet. Jerome is hired to find a Mary who mysteriously disappeared a few days ago.
Lankhor programmers have included an impressive set of sixteen commands in Maupiti Island, including several original commands such as smelling or listening. As if all this wasn't enough, additional options appear when you talk to the characters you meet. Jerome can not only ask questions on topics of interest to him, but also try to bring something out of the memory of his interlocutors, bribe them and even follow them. Because of the profession, all these functions will have a significant impact on the course of the game. While playing Maupiti Island, it is hard not to resist the impression that this is one of the best simulations of a private detective's work, mainly due to the richness of activities that every candidate for solving confusing puzzles has at their disposal.
The game is murderously difficult and requires from the user the ability to associate facts, find a way to "break" the interlocutor and solve a number of traditional puzzles. All locations have been created using tasteful, static images and the movement between them has been pushed into the menu at the top of the screen. Once you have to choose access to new rooms using a limited list - it would be better to follow the example of other adventures on free clicking within the board.
Maupiti Island is a great product, but also a demanding one. Beginners will certainly not have anything to look for here. In order to fully enjoy the confusing scenario it is also necessary to have a good command of English.
