Mandragora is a hybrid of an action RPG and a platform game. It was developed by Primal Game Studio, the authors of MOBA Supernova.
Plot
The game takes us to the dark fantasy land, which is slowly being devoured by the forces of Entropy. In this universe humanity has resigned itself to its fate and does not try to save the world. The survivors hide behind the walls of fortresses, subject to the superstitions imposed by their rulers.
The player character is one of the few inhabitants of the land who decides to fight for its future and try to reclaim it from the hands of Entropy.
Game mechanics
Mandragora is an action RPG in which the locations are designed like in 2.5D platform games. So the graphics is in 3D, but the exploration takes place in two dimensions. We explore the land, complete tasks, avoid traps and fight monsters. From time to time we come across gaps in reality, which allow us to get to an alternative, more dangerous version of reality, controlled by Entropy.
The combat system is very arcade, but the key role in battles is also played by the character's abilities. As befits an RPG, along with the progress in the game our character gains experience points, which we use to develop skills. The game allows you to choose one of several classes and each of them has a unique tree of abilities to unlock.
During the exploration of maps, the player controls only the main character. However, he can recruit encountered craftsmen and other specialists to his caravan traveling through the world. These companions help us create new potions, items, armor and weapons, using the resources we gather during our adventures.
Game modes
Mandragora doesn't offer multiplayer, allowing only to play solo. After completing the campaign, the New Game+ mode is unlocked, allowing us to play it again, without resetting the character development and with an appropriately increased difficulty level. In this way, we can repeat the campaign many times, each time receiving more demanding challenges.
Technical aspects
The game features attractive graphics. It was made in full 3D, but in a very cartoonish style. We can listen to the music composed by Christos Antoniou, a musician from Septicflesh metal band and Chaostar opera orchestra.
