Magic Mansion is a two-dimensional retro platformer released on iOS and Android. It was developed by Nitrome in cooperation with Sets And Settings. The game is available for free download, and the developers earn money on advertisements. They can be turned off with a one-time in-game payment. No other fees are present.
Story
Magic Mansion has no story layer. We simply play the role of a character who tries to reach the top of a mighty tower. The game offers a large set of different heroes, many of which come from earlier Nitrome games.
Mechanics
The game mechanisms in Magic Mansion are trivial. All controls are limited to jumping, which is initiated by touching the screen. The character automatically moves forward and (when reaching the ladder) up the next floors of the tower, and we have to jump at the right moments to enable the character to avoid traps and eliminate enemies. A change of direction occurs when the character encounters a safe obstacle, e.g. a wall or a box.
Magic Mansion belongs to the endless runner genre, a category popular on the mobile market. This means that the game is in fact impossible to win, i.e. to climb the top of the tower itself. The game endlessly generates more floors at random, and the fun comes down to trying to go as high as possible and beating records achieved by the rest of the community. On the way, we also collect coins enabling us to continue playing from the same place instead of from the beginning.
Technical aspects
The game features retro-style visuals, two-dimensional, full of large pixels and built only with two colors - white and black.
