Lost Planet Video Game Series
Created by Japanese conglomerate Capcom, a series of action games with a third-person perspective (TPP) view.
The fathers of the Lost Planet series are Kenji Ohguro, Jun Takeuchi and Shin Kurosawa of Capcom's in-house development team. The first installment of the series, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, was released in 2006 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles, and a little later for PC. The game gained the greatest popularity among owners of the platform produced by Microsoft, where it also lived to see an expanded version - Lost Planet: Colonies (2008). Players had to wait until 2010 for the full-fledged sequel, Lost Planet 2. Two years later, a spin-off hit store shelves - E.X.. Troopers intended for Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation 3 consoles. The development of the next part of the series was entrusted to Spark Unlimited studio, which prepared Lost Planet 3 under the supervision of Capcom.
The games in the Lost Planet series have an interlocking storyline. The action takes place in the future, on the planet E.D.N. III, which was supposed to become an alternative to the Earth destroyed by war, global warming and pollution. The harsh climate and an alien race of Akrids made colonization difficult. Players learn the adventures of the Snow Pirates, a group of colonizers trying to survive in this inhospitable place.
The gameplay focuses on spectacular battles against the instectoid monsters that inhabit E.D.N. III. During battles, players can use a variety of futuristic weaponry, including a combat mecha - the Vital Suit.
In addition to the solo mode of play, most games in the Lost Planet series offer extensive multiplayer options, allowing, among other things, co-op play and team struggles on varied maps.
From the very beginning, the Lost Planet series is distinguished by a refined audiovisual layer. Three-dimensional graphics are generated by the powerful MT-Framework engine, also used in other games produced by Capcom.
Despite its considerable potential, the Lost Planet series never achieved spectacularly high sales. The first installment of the series sold less than 2 million copies, while the second reached about 1.5 million. However, this was enough to attract the attention of Warner Bros. filmmakers, who, in consultation with Capcom, are planning a cinematic adaptation.

The third installment in the science fiction action game series. Contrary to its predecessors developed by Capcom, Lost Planet 3 was created by Spark Unlimited (Call of Duty: Finest Hour, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, and others). The story presents the events preceding those of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. The protagonist is a civil pilot who takes part in the colonization of Eden III. It quickly turns out that the icy planet is inhabited by Akrides, a race of deadly monsters with thermal energy running through their veins. The developers decided to somewhat slow down the gameplay and introduce such elements as a cover system and the ability to control powerful robots. The game is powered by the efficient Unreal Engine 3.
