Little Orpheus is a two-dimensional action adventure game that is a bit like classic games like Another World or Flashback in terms of gameplay. In this game we play the role of a Russian cosmonaut who is given the task of exploring the interior of the Earth. The Chinese Room studio is responsible for its development, and Sumo Digital is the publisher.
Plot
Little Orpheus takes place in 1962, at a time when the USA and the Soviet Union are competing to conquer space. The player takes on the role of Ivan Ivanovich - a cosmonaut who receives a mission to explore the interior of the Earth. The hero arrives in Siberia, sits behind the helm of the Little Orpheus capsule, and through a long extinct volcano he gets to places that human eyes have not yet seen. Unfortunately, something goes wrong and a man is lost without a trace.
After three years he returns - without the atomic reactor that powered the capsule, but with an amazing story. It turns out that Ivan had a unique adventure, and the fate of the whole planet depended on his actions. The story presented in the game draws inspiration from film classics such as Flash Gordon and The Land that Time Forgot.
Mechanics
Little Orpheus is quite a classic adventure game, in which the action is observed from the side side-scroll perspective). The gameplay here consists mainly in exploring locations, solving puzzles (e.g. to switch the appropriate levers) and fight with enemies - monsters and members of the underground Menkv tribe. The key role is also discovered by learning about the history prepared by developers.
Game modes
We can only play Little Orpheus alone. The core of the game is a feature campaign.
Technical aspects
Little Orpheus has a three-dimensional graphic design that presents a decent level. The game world is not overly detailed (some locations are better in this respect, others a bit worse), but the game makes up for it with interesting artistic style and vivid, eye-catching colours.
Other information
Little Orpheus is a game released in an episodic formula - the whole game consists of eight parts merging into one story.
