Let's Build a Dungeon is the second installment in the economic strategy series started in 2021 with the game Let's Build a Zoo. The sequel was developed by the authors of the first part of the series, namely the independent studio Springloaded from Singapore.
Gameplay
Let's Build a Dungeon allows us to experience first-hand the ups and downs of working as the head of a developer studio. During the game we lead a company whose task is to create the best MMORPG game in the world. It is only up to us what form our project will take – the developers working for us can deliver both a classic representative of this genre, as well as a variations based on the Pokemon theme or a farming simulator.
We can select from a wide range of elements that we can place in our game, and we can also decide on its mechanics, establishing character classes or regulating such issues as enemy statistics or the frequency of item drops. Before handing over our product to the players, it's worth subjecting it to thorough tests, hiring specialists or doing it ourselves. It will help to eliminate as many errors and other issues as possible.
Of course, we don't create the best MMORPG game in the world alone. The better developers we hire, the greater the chances of completing the project and making it a success. The matter is complicated by the fact that our budget is not infinite. Sooner or later investors will start demanding reimbursement of incurred costs (with interest, of course). If we don't want the work on the masterpiece of our life to drag on indefinitely, generating ever-increasing costs and stress for the people having to "crunch", we need to carefully plan the content of the project.
Taking risks is worth it, because if our production appeals to the audience, it will start earning money not only for investors, but also for our studio. After the premiere, we should listen to the voices of the community and, if necessary, introduce changes to the project that fans demand. We can significantly extend the life cycle of our title this way, and consequently - the period during which it will be a source of income.
Game modes
The main pillar of Let’s Build a Dungeon is a career mode where we gradually climb to the top of the video game industry. In addition, a creative mode is also available, allowing us to design games without any restrictions or goals imposed from above, and then share them with the community. The game allows for single-player fun or cooperative gameplay over the Internet.
Graphics
The graphic design of Let’s Build a Dungeon was created in the pixel art technique characteristic of the series.
