Last Standard is a three-dimensional action game developed by the small studio I From Japan. This is one of the first game published by Unties, a Sony Music Entertainment division to help independent developers.

Mechanics

Last Standard is mainly about duels against enemies controlled by AI or another person. The most interesting element is the Psycho Dive system. It is responsible for generating weapons. Each of them is unique and produced based on the information about the personality and thinking pattern of a given user. This data is obtained from a form filled in by the player and their activities on social websites like Twitter. During the game, we get parts that are used to modify the received weaponry. What is interesting, they are also based on our style of play. It all boils down to one thing - the longer we play Last Standard the better the weapon fits our favored play style.

The tools crafted this way offer different characteristics and provide different capabilities. The combat itself is quite classic and resembles, for example, a simplified Devil May Cry. Attacks and defense were divided into two types - red and blue. In order to defend oneself against an attack, one has to use a technique of the same color, i.e. a blue attack is negated by the blue block. When we succeed in blocking a hit, the opponent is stunned for a moment and we can launch a counter-attack. Of course, in practice, the gameplay is quite fast and not as easy as in theory. This makes the clashes require not only dexterity but also the knowledge of one's own weapons and a bit of tactic.

Technical aspects

Last Standard is an independent game, which can be seen in its visuals - the environment is not very diverse, animations of characters are repetitive, and the locations themselves are quite small.
