First-person mecha shooter developed by Psygnosis, in which the main character is a revenge-possessed Russian pilot of a combat robot. The title focuses on dexterity and spectacular gameplay.

Story

Aliens invade the Earth and terrorize its inhabitants with powerful robots. Ivan Popovich, the pilot of Steel Cossack, rises against the invaders. Using his strength and endurance, he wants to annihilate the enemy and liberate the Blue Planet. As part of his mission, the protagonist visits France, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Japan. The story prepared by the devs is presented through FMV cut-scenes with real actors.

Mechanics

Krazy Ivan is an FPS where the players confront overwhelming enemy forces at the helm of their robot. The levels prepared by the devs resemble huge battle arenas. On each map, the eponymous character has to defeat a number of enemies. The devs designed a dozen or so types of hostile machines, differing in armament, endurance or the way they move. They are eliminated by additional items scattered on maps, which regenerate ammunition and make Ivan immortal for a moment. Some of them have side effects - they can slow down the hero or make it difficult for him to aim. After each successful task, the players have a chance to improve their equipment using their previously acquired currency.

In addition to the story campaign, Krazy Ivan offers a two-player mode. Shooter enthusiasts can compare themselves in deathmatch by connecting two consoles using a link-cable. For such a game we need two copies of the game, two TV sets and two PS1 consoles.

Technical aspects

Krazy Ivan stands out thanks to its attractive visuals, as well as spectacular FMV cut-scenes. The soundtrack for the game was composed by Tim Wright, who also worked on the soundtracks for the Wipeout, Colony Wars and Lemmings series.
