Koihime Enbu RyoRaiRai is a 2D fighting game in which we take control over characters from the anime series Koihime Musou (a loose adaptation of the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Lou Guanzhong). This is an updated version of Koihime Enbu from 2016. The game is developed by Degica Games (Skyborn, Deadly Sin) and Unknown Games (Gear Boy).

Plot

The world of Koihime Enbu RyoRaiRai is loosely based on the fall of the Han dynasty in China (169 AD). The characters from the game are inspired by real, historical figures and the heroes of the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. However, there is one big difference – all of them are beautiful women.

Mechanics

Koihime Enbu RyoRaiRai is a classic, 2D fighting title. Gameplay starts with picking one of a dozen characters (each featuring unique equipment and attacks) and a strategist (each choice offers access to additional abilities). Then, we find ourselves on an arena where we fight a heroine controlled by either the AI or another player. Combat is presented from a side-view. While controlling the character, we can launch attacks which can be further linked into combos. Additionally, during combat, we can make use of special attacks unlocked after filling a special bar.

Game modes

Koihime Enbu RyoRaiRai can be played solo or with other players via the Internet or locally, in split-screen. There is also a training mode.

Technical aspects

Koihime Enbu RyoRaiRai utilises nice, 2D visuals. The hand-drawn characters and locations may attract attention, as long as you do not mind the manga style characteristic for Asian productions.
