Kingdom Wars 2: Definitive Edition is a real-time strategy game set in a dark fantasy world. Title introduces several interesting solutions to the classic formula, such as crafting system, survival elements, or solutions typical for card games. The game is a refreshed version of Kingdom Wars 2: Battles (mainly improved visuals and interface) and the latest installment of the strategy game series started in 2011. The devs of this series, the Canadian company Reverie World Studios, are responsible for its development and publication.

Plot

Kingdom Wars 2: Definitive Edition takes place in a dark fantasy world, plunged into a war between three races: humans, elves, and orcs. The terrible conflict, which has been going on for many years, suddenly enters a completely new phase, when a fourth faction - the undead - enters the fray. Legions of living corpses are a threat to all sides of the war, and it is extremely difficult to stop them - each killed person strengthens the ranks of the enemy. The only rescue seems to be the combining forces with the hated enemies.

Mechanics

Kingdom Wars 2: Definitive Edition is a real-time strategy game. In each battle we can control one of three different armies, which have their own unique features and characteristic units - including powerful heroes and wizards, whose special abilities and magic can determine the outcome of the battle.

An important part of the game are spectacular sieges, during which we try to defend our fortress, or conquer the city or castle of the enemy. Attackers can use a variety of siege machines such as trebuchets, catapults, and even cannons, but defenders also have a few tricks in the proverbial sleeve (e.g. boiling oil).

Economy also plays a very important role in missions - we have to acquire various types of resources, which we then use to develop technology trees and create new buildings and items (including weapons and magic books). This is due to an extensive system of crafting. It is also possible to make special cards that offer reinforcements, with only a few of them in our deck - their selection is very important from tactical and strategic point of view.

It is also worth noting, that the game has been enriched with extensive online functions, thanks to which the players can create guilds and alliances in multiplayer mode - this guarantees access to special prizes and bonuses.

Game modes

Kingdom Wars 2: Definitive Edition can be played solo or with others. In addition to the story campaign, we are given the opportunity to fight in single battles - with both a computer and a human rival. The devs have also prepared a special Survival Mode, in which we try to defend ourselves against an army of undead - in this case, a friend can help us in our struggle.

Technical aspects

Kingdom Wars 2: Definitive Edition features decent three-dimensional visuals maintained in a fairly typical fantasy style. Models of individual units and characters are characterized by a reasonable level of detail, and the locations are not lacking in atmosphere, but in terms of technology, the game from Reverie World Studios deviates slightly from the top shelf.
