The Lord of the Rings, vol. 1, is a cRPG game based on the story of J.R.R.R. Tolkien's novel "The Lord of the Rings". It includes control of a group of heroes (initially only hobbits) who set off on a dangerous mission to the land of Mordor to destroy the title ring of unimaginable power. If he gets into the roundness of the evil Sauron, the whole land of Middle-earth and all free peoples will inevitably be exterminated....
You might think that the scenario of the game is limited to the events from the book, but nothing more wrong. Interplay programmers have introduced many side tasks, which diversify the first part of the expedition to inhospitable Mordor and which have little in common with the plot of the novel. This can be seen at the very beginning of the game, when the team stands a chance to tame the wolves and thus save the children of the hobbits. You will find a lot of stories of this kind along the way and, what is more interesting, you can return to them at any time. Of course, the main tasks are no less important. In the first part of the game are to deliver a ring to Dol Guldur and defeat King Nazguli.
As Tolkien has a large number of heroes who have a direct influence on the events, the game could not miss them either. The problem of team control has been solved in an interesting way. We manage only one character and the rest obediently follow us. When we need to use the skills of a specific hero, we activate him and do what we need to do. Controlling in combat takes into account all of the team's characters at once and you don't have to worry about their selection. The battle part is divided into rounds, in which enemies are attacked one by one.
Our heroes are described by six coefficients. In addition to the traditional and necessary for combat, such as stamina, strength, dexterity and happiness, there is also a level of willpower, which determines to what extent the heroes are resistant to the influence of evil, including the ring. In addition, there are about 25 special skills that our characters can get during the game, e.g. by training with a specific NPC. Since this is a cRPG game, there was also a lot of spells, divided into several groups.
Audiovisual is at a decent level. The program welcomes us with an introduction consisting of a series of drawings summarizing current events. The action is depicted with a view from above, as in the Alien Breed or Gauntlet series. By right-clicking, you have access to a number of icons that you can use to issue commands. You can talk to the characters you meet and ask them questions by entering keywords. This is the biggest drawback of the game, because sometimes it is difficult to find the right phrase to move the action forward.
