Jewel Link Chronicles: Mountains of Madness is the conversion of the Mystery Stories: Mountains of Madness PC adventure for Nintendo DS users. Developers from Avanquest Software made sure that the adaptation was not just a carbon copy of solutions from the original prepared by Cerasus Media team, but was an attempt to tell the same story using slightly different forms of artistic expression.

Jewel Link Chronicles: Mountains of Madness is based on H.P. Lovecraft's novel "In the mountains of madness". The action takes place in 1931 and the main characters, Prof. William Dyer and his assistant Lynn Morgan, try to explain the mysterious death of polar explorers who came across traces of prehistoric civilization in an Arctic research facility.

Unlike the PC-based original, where the essence of the gameplay was hidden object puzzles, the creators of Jewel Link Chronicles: Mountains of Madness introduced much more match-3 puzzles (match-3 matching three elements). This procedure decisively changed the proportions of play, in which perceptiveness and the ability to think logically are equally important. The control system for the Nintendo DS console has also been changed.

From the audiovisual side, the game is based on elements copied from the PC prototype. However, graphics and animations have been adapted to the capabilities of the displays built into Nintendo DS.
