Jagged Alliance 3 (2006)

Jagged Alliance 3 is a turn-based strategy game about the activities of the mercenary branch. The plot is as follows: the president of a banana republic is struggling with an uprising. A neighbouring country, taking advantage of the situation, shall attack in order to enlarge its territory. In addition, in the uprising ravaged and invaded by a neighbouring country, a multinational corporation conducts dangerous and terrible experiments. We have the opportunity to join one of the four sides of the conflict. The fifth, non-playing faction, related to the fantastic plot, also takes part in the game.

At Jagged Alliance 3, as in previous parts of the cycle, we command a mercenary squad (there are 40 characters with different characteristics and abilities to choose from) to whom we can give detailed orders. The order in which the action is carried out depends on the value of the "initiative" feature of the character. On the map of the world the team can travel on foot or using vehicles. On the tactical map, the unit is forced to move on its legs, and the vehicles can be used as warehouses for unnecessary items at the moment.

As befits a strategic war game, we have an extensive arsenal of weapons at our disposal. Those who know the previous parts of the series recognize some elements of armament. In addition, some new models of weapons have been added, and a number of different types of ammunition and armour have been introduced. Mercenaries can also use stationary heavy machine guns.

Characteristically, Jagged Alliance 3 does not have a micro-management system or economics known from previous versions of the series. Instead, the authors have chosen to focus the gameplay more on the fight. Our income is to a large extent money received for the execution of individual missions, but we have the opportunity to improve the budget by trading with the merchants we meet.

The game was created on a modified Silent Storm engine, with improved graphics, improved physics, special effects and a model of destruction. The area of activity is presented in isometric projection. The main locations and missions are designed. Apart from them, we also have randomly generated events waiting for us.

For those players who think that there is no room for fantastic elements in this type of production, the authors have provided the possibility to turn them off. We can do this from the level of the game options.
