Using special equipment, the protagonist discovers and documents not only yet-unknown creatures, but also remains of old civilizations.
Iron Fish published on PC is an original psychological horror with action set deep under the surface of the ocean. The title is co-developed by the British studio Beefjack (until now, mostly dedicated to promotion and commercial productions) and an independent developer Dean Edwards. The idea for Iron Fish emerged from combining the fascination with extraordinary horror films with the beauty and mystery of the underwater world presented in such documentaries as The Blue Planet and Natural World.
Plot
Cerys Harley – a oceanographer – is the main hero of the title. Commissioned by the Navy Seals, she sets off on a special research mission 7 miles deep into the ocean. With the use of special equipment, partly financed by the government agency, the heroine is to reveal the secrets of the floor of the ocean, which is known to humans only in 5%. Naturally, the ocean hides a multitude of dangers, including new, undiscovered ocean creatures. While facing the unfavourable conditions, Harley attempts to find out which of the ocean mysteries are just myths and which can be scientifically proven. At the same time, the protagonist confronts her very own primal fears and discovers unclear facts concerning her vague past.
Mechanics
The action of Iron Fish is observed from the side-view. The action largely comes down to exploring the ocean depths and using special equipment in order to examine and reveal mysteries of the ocean. During the journey you visit a number of different, picturesque locations, such as beautiful coral reefs and ominous caves. This is where you will explore many strange places that hide remains of unknown civilisations. You will also go toe-to-toe with diverse, yet-undiscovered species of the ocean fauna – some of it may pose a mortal danger.
Technical aspects
Iron Fish for PC makes use of the power of Unreal Engine 4, which ensures amazing visuals. Even though the action is set in an unusual, at least for a horror, underwater environment, the authors managed to keep all the genre’s characteristic elements – a gloomy, depressing atmosphere with the feeling of isolation and constant danger.
