Depth Description
Depth is a multiplayer stealth game, in which we can assume the role of either the scuba divers or the sharks that hunt them. A commercial debut from Digital Confectioners, a studio established by a group of experienced modders, some of whom have previously worked on the first version of Killing Floor.
In Depth, two teams compete with each other online. The scuba divers descend into the water in search of treasures, usually hidden within sunken ships. As a human, our task is to locate valuable objects, and deliver them to the surface. The second team, the sharks, has to thwart their plans, which equals scuba snacks.
The fact that the action takes place mostly under water provides a unique gaming experience. The divers’ movements are subjected to the very same rules as in real life, while the sharks have the ability to detect water vibrations, which allows them to locate their potential victims easier. On the other hand, the cold-blooded killers have very poor vision, which provides a balancing factor – a motionless diver is virtually invisible to them. A swimming one, however, not to mention a bleeding one, is an easy kill. In other words, the gameplay involves playing cat and mouse under water.
Depth is powered by Unreal Engine 3. Despite being an indie game, the graphics do not stand out from modern visual standards and offer a realistic, detailed experience.
