The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series - A New Frontier

The third full-fledged season of the popular series of episodic adventure games developed by Telltale Games based on the cult comics and TV series, The Walking Dead. The mechanics of the game are similar as in previous installments of the series and they concentrate on exploration and conversations with non-playable characters. In difference to classic adventure games, The Walking Dead: Season Three lacks typical puzzles and the focus is on making various moral choices which are the main factor that shapes the story of the game. A new feature in the game is a special system that allows moving saved games between various platforms. It is possible to import saves from Season Two and continue the plots started there with all consequences of the choices previously made.

The second season of Batman: The Telltale Series, which debuted in 2016. In this adventure game by Telltale Games (the developers of such titles as The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games Series and The Wolf Among Us: A Telltale Games Series) the player follows the dark story of Bruce Wayne and his superhero alter-ego. This time Batman has to challenge both Joker and Riddler as well as a merciless federal agent who has just came to the city of Gotham. The story is split into five episodes, the first one of which launched in August 2017. In the game you get to explore small locations, talk to characters met there, play through QTE sequences and, of course, make difficult moral decisions that determine how the story unfolds. Batman: The Telltale Series - The Enemy Within features actors that made the appearance in the first game. Batman is starred by Troy Baker, while his arch-nemesis Joker by Anthony Ingruber.

A humoristic adventure game with a classic point-and-click interface. It was developed by Daedalic Entertainment, a studio that specializes in this genre. The story of Deponia can be described as one big comedy of errors and, at the same time, the most unbelievable love story ever shown in a video game. Fans of works by Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, and of The Simpsons animated TV series, will easily find it interesting. The title refers to a planet filled with heaps of garbage among which the main character, Rufus, lives. His greatest wish is to be rich and live someplace high, above the surface of the hated planet. Once upon a time, a beautiful girl, Goal, falls from the sky, and for Rufus it will mean the beginning of an extraordinary adventure that will quickly prove to be much more than a mission of walking a woman home. The story is shown using attractive, hand-drawn graphics, through which, among others, it provides a large dose of wacky humor.

An episodic adventure game based on the popular Fables comic book series. The Wolf Among Us was developed by Telltale Games, studio that used the same mechanics as in its previous title, The Walking Dead. The protagonists are fairy creatures that were forced to look for a safe haven in the human world where they must hide their true nature. During the game the player can encounter many characters known from the comic books – including the Big Bad Wolf, Snow White or Ichabod Crane. The gameplay is focused mostly on visiting locations, conversing with NPCs, solving riddles and making hard decisions. The Wolf Among Us employs comic book-like visuals and, as usual, cel-shading.

Another episodic adventure game developed by the experienced American studio Telltale Games, who had produced many highly acclaimed video games based on famous films, books, and comic books, such as Back to the Future, The Walking Dead, and Game of Thrones. Batman: A Telltale Game Series takes you into the grim city of Gotham, however, unlike Rocksteady’s popular action game series, Telltale Games’ production focuses on Bruce Wayne himself, showing his moral dilemmas and the burden imposed on him by the constant fight against corruption and crime. In terms of gameplay the title does not stray far from the studio’s previous productions. As always, the key element of gameplay is making tough choices that influence the way the story unfolds – and not just within one chapter but across the entire season.

An old-school murder mystery point-and-click adventure game, developed by a veteran of the genre, the French company Microids. Production is based on a novel by Agatha Christie under the same title and is the first installment in a planned game series describing the adventures of a famous sleuth, Hercule Poirot. Plot of the Agatha Christie: The ABC Murders starts when the detective receives a letter from a serial killer, who identifies himself as A.B.C., in which he informs of the date and place of his next crime. When the panic begins to spread in the society, the task of capturing the guilty, falls, of course, on the shoulders of our protagonist. Title employs a third person view, and during the game we visit successive locations, investigate crime scenes, collect evidence, interrogate witnesses, and solve subsequent criminal puzzles. The game features a colorful, slightly cartoonish visual style.

This time you play as the 11-years-old Clementine, who, like the other characters, is trying to survive in the world infested by a zombie epidemic. The game mechanics remain the same, focusing on exploration, talking to NPCs, searching for items, and solving puzzles. The decisions you make affect the story even much later in the game. Like the first installment from 2012, The Walking Dead: Season Two was released as a series of episodes.

The main theme of The Walking Dead: Season One revolves around a dramatic struggle for survival in a world infested by zombies. The player assumes the role of Lee Everett, one of the few survivors. The gameplay emphasizes exploration, dialogues, collecting items, and puzzle solving. The most significant feature are in-game moral choices the protagonist has to make, and whose consequences are often made visible only after some time. The developers created a highly interactive environment to give the players a good degree of freedom in puzzle solving. The Walking Dead: Season One catches the eye with its comic-like style, achieved with cel shading.

The game of the same title is set in the 12th-century, in the tumultuous period known as the Anarchy. After the sudden death of king Henry I and the only heir to the throne having been killed in the crash of the White Ship, England gets consumed in a violent war of succession. With the war in the background and the tensions between the nobles, clergy and the common people constantly growing, the game tells a story about an attempt to raise a monumental cathedral in a fictional city of Kingsbridge in the south of the country. As for the game’s mechanics, The Pillars of the Earth is no different from a typical adventure game with gameplay based on exploration of different locations, conducting conversations, and solving various logic puzzles.

Full Throttle Remastered is a remastered edition of the classic 1995 point-and-click adventure game that was developed by LucasArts. Just like the remaster of the Day of the Tentacle, the refreshed version of Full Throttle was created by Double Fine Productions, a studio made of developers of the original game. The game takes place in a grim future where classic vehicles were replaced with the machines powered by antigravity-based engines. We play as the leader of a motorcycle gang, who, along with his companions, is being accused of killing the owner of the last remaining company that produces classic motorbikes. Our job is to clear our name and find the actual person responsible for that murder. Audiovisuals of the original game were visibly refreshed and improved. New high-resolution backgrounds were created for the remastered version, and every animation frame was re-drawn by hand from scratch.

A three-part episodic adventure game by Telltale Games that came out as an expansion to The Walking Dead: Season Two. The game takes us back to the world where human population was decimated by a zombie virus. As the title suggests, it focuses on one of the most recognizable characters from the original graphic novel – Michonne, the series' relentless, sword-wielding heroine. Since the original story revealed only shreds of her past, the game tries to fill in the gap by depicting the events that caused Michonne to leave Rick, Ezekiel and the rest of the group, and why she came back. Gameplay mechanics is the same as in the previous installments in The Walking Dead series, therefore, you mainly explore, talk to other characters, and make tough choices that determine how the story unfolds. The game does not include logic puzzles, which usually are the landmark of the genre, instead featuring simple action sequences.

The result of the independent Polish studio Pixel Crow's cooperation with 11 bit studios, the creators of This War of Mine. Beat cop is a point-and-click time management game. You play as Jack Kelly, a former NYC detective who was framed for murder and demoted. Hated by everyone around, Jack is trying to reconcile his duties with conducting a private investigation in order to discover who framed him. The plot of Beat Cop is non-linear and its many endings depend on your decisions. Interestingly, the game was inspired by American crime TV shows from the 70s and 80s, which is reflected in its atmosphere and humor. The time-management element of the production is most visible when you're patrolling the streets of Brooklyn, while during the investigation segments it becomes a detective/adventure game. Beat Cop has a distinct retro feel thanks to its pixel-art graphics and oldschool soundtrack.

The third installment in a light-hearted adventure game series created by Czech developer Amanita Design, who also created such titles as Botanicula and Machinarium. Once again, you play as the little space gnome, who does not speak and communicates with the world solely by gestures and strange sounds. In terms of gameplay, Samorost 3 is a typical point-and-click adventure game that focuses on exploration of diversified locations and solving inventive logic puzzles. In contrast to its predecessors, which were very short and simple productions, the newest installment in the Samorost series is a full-fledged production offering several hours of gameplay. The game’s unquestionable strength are its audiovisuals. The graphics were created with a technique that combines photography and hand-drawn elements. The atmosphere is further enhanced by the soundtrack composed by Tomas Dvorak, known from previous productions by Amanita Design.

A typical point-and-click adventure game and a continuation to 2012's Yesterday. Yesterday Origins was developed by the creators of the original game - the Spanish Pendulo Studios. Again, the player takes on the role of John Yesterday; as for the plot, it was divided into two timelines. Thus the player, familiar with present-day events, is taken back to the era of the Spanish Inquisition. In terms of game mechanics, the game follows the pattern of its predecessor. The player explores the in-game locations, talks to NPCs, gathers items and solves various puzzles for the most part. Contrary to the first installment however, Yesterday Origins is a fully 3D title, though the creators have once again managed to convey the characteristic atmosphere of the original game through application of the specific, cartoonish art style.

A remastered edition of a classic adventure game created by LucasArts in 1993. That game, along with its sequel, Maniac Mansion, became famous as the grandfather of modern adventure games. The Remastered Edition was prepared by Double Fine Productions, a studio founded by Tim Schafer – one of the co-creators of the original hit. In the game you play as a trio of heroes who are trying to save the world from a threat posed by the titular tentacle. After coming into contact with an unknown substance it acquired consciousness and high intelligence. The only salvation seems to be traveling back in time in order to prevent the tentacle from being born. However, after the time machine malfunctions, the situation gets more complicated, as the heroes get trapped in three different historical periods. The creators made sure that the new edition was faithful to the original ideas, offering as much absurd humor as the original and the unique 2D visuals that are reminiscent of classic cartoons by Warner Bros.

Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire books. The game features an original story overlapping with the events presented in the seasons 3-5 of the TV series. This six-part episodic story focuses on the House Forrester, whose members, although missing from the TV show, appeared in the fifth book of the saga. Known for ironwood trade, the Forresters are trying to survive the War of the Five Kings, while competing with House Whitehill. Gameplay employs the classic point-and-click mechanics. The game lets you visit many well-known locations from across both the Westeros and Essos continents, and observe the events from the perspective of several characters whose actions have direct impact on the fate of the two families.
