Into the Necrovale is a hack'n'slash with roguelike mechanics. It was created by Casey Clyde, an indie developer known for such games as Frauki's Adventure!. The game's primary inspirations were Diablo, Path of Exile, Hades and Dead Cells.

Plot

Into the Necrovale is set in a collapsing fantasy world. We play as a criminal chosen by the All-Father to let the world be reborn... by destroying it. To achieve our goal we must delve into the Necrovale, a massive dungeon, where villains, monsters and outcasts have been imprisoned.

Mechanics

Into the Necrovale makes use of the top-down perspective. The game is set in many small, procedurally generated levels. Each stage tasks us with an objective, such as defeating all enemies or defending a character.

When leaving an area, we can choose one out of two available areas to proceed to (for example, a choice between a merchant and a group of enemies. This lets us plan our route through the dungeon and avoid some challenges.

Combat is fast-paced and the player can wield various melee weapons, bows and magic staffs. As we progress through the game we gather more powerful equipment -weapons, armor, relics - which increase our combat potential. Items can also synergize with each other and grant unique effects, encouraging experimentation.

Death is permanent, but progressing further earns us Hope Stones we can spend on permanent upgrades or opening new passageways. In-between our trips into the dungeon we'll return to the hub to resupply and get rid of unneeded items.

Technical aspects

Into the Necrovale features pixel art graphics.
