Into the Belly of the Beast is a colorful, two-dimensional action-adventure game, whose main attraction is combining DNA of different sea creatures. The game was created by a small, independent studio Lucky Brograms from Berlin and released on PC and XONE.

Story

In the game we play the role of a likeable worm named Sploosh, who one sunny day went with his children to swim in the sea. At one point, a giant sea monster emerged from the endless depths, and to our hero's despair he swallowed up his defenceless offspring. Sploosh chased after the monster and managed to get to his jaws, but whether he manages to free the kidnapped children depends only on the player's help.

Mechanics

Into the Belly of the Beast combines elements of an action-adventure game and a classic two-dimensional platformer. As we play, we travel through five different worlds inside the sea monster, and our main goal is, of course, to free the abducted children. However, before we reach our goal, we have to face a mass of different puzzles and a huge gallery of opponents and bosses, which require the development of dedicated combat methods. The key to success in the game is the ability to devour various types of bacteria so that Sploosh assimilates part of their DNA chain. This, in turn, allows him to acquire a number of unique skills and influence how other creatures react to his presence.

Technical aspects

Into the Belly of the Beast was developed using the popular Unity engine and features an extremely intense color palette. Each of the five worlds visited in the game, located in the different organ of the monster (lungs, stomach, etc.), is characterized not only by a slightly different gameplay mechanics, but also a different graphic style, which consists of slightly abstract scenes and imaginative sea creatures.
