Import Tuner Challenge (alias Tokyo Extreme Racer) is a game that belongs to a popular street racer series, originated on Dreamcast console. The newest installment, released in Japan as Shutokou Battle X, was prepared for Xbox 360.

The game’s main course is the quest mode, where you start with one car and only a small portion of a highway in Tokyo. In order to unlock more cars and streets, you have to earn money by winning illegal races. You can start one simply by flashing a high beam, and if the opponent accepts, the race begins. To find someone to race with, you simply need to stop and wait for a moment. The one who keeps the leading position for a longer time, wins. Import Tuner Challenge uses game engine able to generate car damage that impacts driving.

In between races you can freely roam the city streets at any selected time of day (evening, night, or morning) or customize your car in a garage. In addition to improving the car’s performance, you can freely modify its appearance to your preferences, by adding neon lights, decals, etc. The game consists of several stages, each one ending with a boss fight. Apart from single player, there is also a ranking mode, in which you can use Xbox Live network to compare your scores with those of other players and challenge them. The developers added two districts of Tokyo (Shibuya and Shinjuku) unavailable before in the series. Another innovation is the inside camera, which lets you see all the electronics (e.g. working speed-o-meter). Here, the navigation with the analogue stick is enabled.
