Immortals of Aveum
A new IP, Immortals of Aveum, doesn’t make the best first impression, yet has the potential to be much more – if it focuses on what it does well.
The main pros of the game
- Visual Presentation: The graphics, sound, and special effects are highly praised, with users noting that the environments are detailed and visually appealing.
- Engaging Combat: Many players enjoyed the combat mechanics, describing it as fun and fast-paced, akin to a mix of popular titles like Doom and Naruto.
- Interesting Lore and Worldbuilding: The game features a rich lore that is delivered throughout the gameplay, captivating players who appreciate a well-developed world.
- Strong Beginning and Finale: The initial hours of the game and the concluding segments received positive feedback for their engagement and excitement.
- Replayability: Some users mentioned that the game offers replay value through different playstyles and character builds.
The main cons of the game
- Performance Issues: A significant number of players reported poor optimization, with frequent crashes, stuttering, and low frame rates even on high-end systems.
- Pacing Problems: Many reviews pointed out that the pacing is inconsistent, with long stretches of gameplay that feel padded with unnecessary encounters and side quests.
- Weak Main Character: The protagonist, Jak, received criticism for being unlikable and frustrating, which detracted from the overall experience.
- Predictable Storyline: The main plot was often described as predictable, with twists that felt forced or clichéd.
- Limited Customizability: The game?s color-coded enemy system restricts player choice in combat, leading to a feeling of inflexibility.
The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users
- Better Optimization: Users expressed a desire for improved performance and stability, particularly for a game that utilizes Unreal Engine 5.
- Enhanced Dialogue and Character Development: Some players noted that the dialogue felt detached or cringe-worthy, and they wished for more depth in character interactions.
- Variety in Gameplay: There were calls for more diverse enemy types and combat scenarios to keep the gameplay fresh and engaging.
- More Meaningful Choices: Players desired a narrative that involved more complex moral dilemmas or impactful decisions, rather than a straightforward good vs. evil storyline.
- Customization Options: A more robust skill tree and character customization options were mentioned as areas for improvement.
Summary
- In summary, while Immortals of Aveum has appealing visuals and engaging combat, it suffers from performance issues, pacing problems, and a lack of depth in its storyline and character development. Many players recommend purchasing it on sale due to its shortcomings, despite its potential and interesting concepts.

Immortals of Aveum Description
Immortals of Aveum is a first-person shooter developed by Ascendant Studios - a team founded by Bret Robbins (creative director of games such as Call of Duty: WWII, Dead Space and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King). The game was published by Electronic Arts as part of the EA Originals program.
Plot
The main protagonist of Immortals of Aveum is Jak, a battlemage and an elite Triarch Magnus. In order to save the fantasy realm of Aveum from impending doom, he joins the titular Immortals, a magical order of protectors.
To do so, he must uncover the secrets of the land's troubled past, learn the cause of the bloody conflict called the Everwar and put an end to it.
Mechanics
Though described as a first-person shooter, there are no guns in Immortals of Aveum. Using various seals, Jak is able to wield blue, green and red magic. The colors represent the elements. To succeed, the player must cast spells quickly and accurately, counter enemy blows and chain their magic into deadly combos.
There is plenty to choose from, as Immortals of Aveum offers over 25 spells and 80 talents. These can be upgraded in the skill tree and made even more powerful. Thanks to their diversity, it's easy to customize your playstyle - for example, focus only on one element - and make it more effective with craftable magical gear, such as seals, gauntlets and rings.
The game is half-open, featuring linear locations and hub areas. The player can instantly move between the latter thanks to the fast travel system. This lets us return to previously visited locations to solve all the puzzles, acquire missed or once unavailable items or talk to NPCs, who have special responses prepared in case of our return.
Technical aspects
Immortals of Aveum features a singleplayer campaign, completing which takes about 25 hours, possibly more for completionists.
