We play the role of a vet, running a clinic for animals. We participate in several different mini-games concerning the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases.
Animal Doctor belongs to Imagine game series promoted by Ubisoft. These games feature rather simple rules, and most of them are designed for girls. It is no different in this case too. Animal Doctor lets you play as a veterinarian. A similar theme was used in other Nintendo DS titles, such as Puppy Luv and Paws & Claws: Pet Vet.
In the game, you meet a young vet named Sally. She establishes and runs her own veterinary clinic with the help of her grandma, grandpa and her brother Eric. In the game, you can control only the main heroine - the other characters play secondary roles. In comparison to other games in this genre, Animal Doctor features more intricacy, which is apparent e.g. in the process of diagnosing and treating the clinic’s patients. At the same time, you have to keep an eye on the economy, in order to be able to successfully develop the business.
Stating the diagnosis takes a form of several different mini-games, which may focus on using specialist tools, such as the stethoscope. All the mini-games use the console’s unique capabilities, including full support for the touchscreen and built-in microphone. There are precise instructions on the screen, so players knew what they should be doing. The very process of treating also requires making reasonable decisions in order to bring the animals to full health. You also have to satisfy the animal’s needs by providing them with food and water. Each pet is described by several basic statistics.
Animal Doctor has also some elements typical of economic strategy. In addition to the aforementioned financial issues, you also have to keep the place clean, expand it with new rooms where you could treat more serious diseases. Interestingly, the producer interconnected this game with another Ubisoft’s product – Petz: Horsez 2. Therefore, you can treat and interact with horses from that game. When it comes to visuals, Imagine: Animal Doctor sports high quality level. The lower screen usually displays a 3D image of an animal, while the upper one informs of its condition and current needs.
