Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms

Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms it's a free-to-play game from a sub-genre clickers, combining elements of strategy and RPG. The game takes us to the world of Forgotten Realms, known from Dungeons & Dragons paper RPG system (D&D) and from games such as Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter Nights. We are in the lead of the daredevils' team, which is going through the next boards full of monsters.

Mechanics

The Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms takes us on a journey through the Forgotten Realms in a series of feature campaigns. We can lead a team of heroes known from books and games. Each scenario is a separate adventure, in which we gather the team, raise the levels of our characters and acquire useful items. Each such journey consists of many stages. In order to continue the expedition, we have to go through them; in order to do so, we perform the tasks assigned to them - killing a certain number of monsters, collecting appropriate things or defeating the boss. These activities bring us gold.

Yellow ore is the main raw material in the game. We can promote the characters for him and buy new team members. The more powerful the companion, the more gold you have to spend on his purchase and promotion. As the heroes' prices can be astronomical, it is useful to collect currency even when the game is off.

You don't have to play actively in the Idle Champions to make progress. Not only the currency collects itself, but the levels pass without us. Our characters fight monsters and collect items and money without any player intervention, but for a team to move from stage to stage, the game must be on (at least in the background). Of course, sooner or later, the group will find stronger enemies and our intervention will be required.

The most direct form of influence that a player has on the game is clicking. We can click on enemies, dealing small amounts of damage (by spending gold, you can increase it) and delaying enemies for a while, causing them to stop or not finish their attack.

However, the main tasks of the player include the purchase and promotion of the character, as well as the appropriate team setup. Our subordinates acquire new skills with the promotion. They often affect the character's surroundings. Therefore, the formation of our group should be rethought so that it makes the best use of the available skilles, as this can be invaluable in more difficult fights.

For killing bosses, you get chests with items or bags of special grove currency. Both currency and more chests can be purchased faster by spending real money.

Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms is a single player game.

Other information

The game debuted on the PC in the form of early access on 7 September 2017, and left it in March 2020. After its official premiere, the game was on the list of the best earning premieres of March on the Steam platform.

From time to time, there are temporary events in the game where you can unlock special heroes and items for them. After that time, these characters are only available under paid DLC.
