Hyperdimension Neptunia Hypercollection for PS3 is a collection of the three initial installments of the satyrical series of jRPGs Hyperdimension Neptunia. The franchise made its debut in 2010, and importantly, its characters personify consoles and Japanese developers. The series was created by two Japanese companies – Idea Factory and Compile Heart; it is an incredibly popular franchise, which over several years since its debut, got extended with many installments and spin-offs, which came out for PCs, as well as the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita consoles. It is worth noticing, that this collection contains the original versions of the franchise's three initial installments (including the worst-rated original game), instead of their improved and extended Re;birth editions, which came out for other gaming systems.
Hyperdimension Neptunia was released in 2010. Its main character is a vigorous girl by the name of Neptune, who is a personification of Sega's console that was never released, but beared the codename "Neptune". Similar to her friend – Noir, who represents PlayStation 3, Blanc (Wii), and Vert (Xbox 360), she rules her own country and serves the role of its guardian. However, an organization that spreads piracy and wishes to ruin the leaders of those nations endangers the safety of all the nations.
Hyperdimension Neptunia mk 2 came out in 2011. The game is not a direct continuation to the first installment, but in similarity to it, presents a satire on the "conflict" between the fans of particular consoles and the fight against piracy. Again, the characters here are goddesses of a fictitious world known as Gamindustri, who rule four lands and represent different gaming systems. The sequel extends the cast with the new protagonist, who is called Nepgear – she is Neptune's younger sister. Along with other characters representing such portable consoles as PSP or Nintendo DS, Nepgear has to stop a group of mysterious antagonists belonging to Magicon, which is an organization that threatens the existence of Gamindustri.
Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory was released in 2012. The game brings a continuation to the story presented in the second installment and its action begins several years after those events. The threat posed by the evil god by the name of Arfoire was ended, and the four goddesses of Gamindustri live in peace and harmony. One of them, the sympathetic Neptune, is the protagonist here. Accidentally, she is taken to an alternative dimension, where her friends and their countries are about to start a war on one another. Occuppied by the fight, the goddesses are not aware that their future rule is endangered by a mysterious group of the "seven sages". Thus Neptune's goals are to reconcile the goddesses, defeat the sages, and find a way back home.
