HROT Description
HROT is an old-school FPS set in communist Prague. It was developed by an indie dev Spytihnev.
Plot
HROT takes place in Czechoslovakia. In 1986 the city is struck by a mysterious disaster, driving the people of Prague to seek shelter underground. The main protagonist is a soldier who returns to the city streets and faces the intruders now dwelling there, despite his lack of equipment (he starts the game with only a worn-out pistol and a broken gas mask).
Mechanics
HROT makes use of the first-person perspective. The player must traverse gloomy levels inspired by real locations. The atmosphere of communist Europe is reflected by the grey color palette, distinctive architecture, building interiors, found items and accessories.
Along the way we complete quests and face enemies in combat. We'll primarily be making use of firearms, such as pistols, shotguns, rocket launchers and experimental Soviet weapons, like lightning guns. If we ever run out of ammo, we can keep sowing death wielding a sickle and a hammer.
Technical aspects
HROT runs on a custom engine imitating graphical engines from the 1990s. Though the visuals are seemingly unimpressive, they fit in with the game's theming and atmosphere.
