Hitman Trilogy is a re-release of the World of Assassination trilogy - stealth action games about an assassin code-named Agent 47: Hitman, Hitman 2 and Hitman 3. It was developed and published by Danish studio IO Interactive, known mainly for producing this series.
Plot
All three games tell one story. During the game we play as Agent 47 and carry out successive assignments in different parts of the globe, seemingly disconnected from each other, which with time become a coherent narrative whole.
The protagonist works for the International Contract Agency (ICA). As the assassinations continue, he realizes that the organization has been manipulated by a mysterious Shadow Client. So he focuses on eliminating him and destroying the powerful Providence group behind him.
Game mechanics
The gameplay in each part of the trilogy differs in small details, but the game mechanics remain the same. We observe the world from the third person perspective. Each mission is set in a different open location, giving us a lot of freedom in terms of how to complete the task. It also offers us many side activities related to the story.
Usually the main objective of Agent 47 is the elimination of his targets, which can be done in many ways. The most desirable is to remain as discreet as possible, such as using a disguise to arrive unnoticed at the place and pretend to be an accident, using a weapon with a silencer or poisoning the victim. Of course, you can also just get into an open fight with the guards, but this solution is less scored than not revealing your presence. Although we have access to a variety of gadgets and weapons, we can only take a limited number of them on a mission; we can also use tools found on the spot.
As we progress through the missions, we level up and gain access to new weapons. To facilitate progress, missions can be repeated with a variety of enhancements - such as starting from a location that makes it easier to reach the objective, or sometimes with an extra gadget smuggled in by the agency - and previously unlocked shortcuts are permanently available.
Game modes
Apart from the campaign, which consists of a series of story tasks, the game offers Contracts and Escalations modes. In the first one our task is to eliminate from one to several targets, chosen from dozens of characters and placed in different locations, in order to gain as many points as possible. Our results can be compared with the achievements of other players. Escalations mode is similar - we also have to eliminate the indicated targets. However, here we have additional conditions imposed on us - we have to do it with a specific weapon or in a specific disguise, for example - and the difficulty of the challenges increases with time, making the gameplay more demanding.
Technical aspects
The game was built on the Glacier 2 engine created by the IO Interactive studio specifically for Hitman: Absolution from 2012 and the company's subsequent projects. Since then it has been improved, which can be seen through the enhancements seen in subsequent installments of the series - from better textures and visual effects, to an advanced crowd generation system and support for SSR technology.
On PCs and PlayStation consoles,
All three games can be played with the help of virtual reality goggles.
