Hedon Bloodrite is an old school first person shooter with adventure game and RPG elements. The game was developed by Zan_HedonDev.

The project's roots reach back to the modification for Doom II: Hell on Earth entitled Hedon. It was so popular that developers decided to turn it into a commercial project. It also became a success, so the decision was made to develop a sequel. It also Hedon Bloodrite is actually a collection, combining Hedon II and the improved version of the first Hedon.

Plot

The story takes place in underground fantasy land, which is on the verge of collapse due to the invasion of chaos forces. The main character is a half-orc warrior named Zan. She belongs to a group known as the Iron Division, one of the strongest factions in this universe, which tries to save it from the demon armies.

Mechanics

The game is designed as an action game referring to classic first-person productions, mainly from the 1990s. Zan_HedonDev mentions such titles as Doom, Hexen, Thief or Arxa Datalis as a source of inspiration.

In Hedon Bloodrite we observe the events from a first-person perspective. During the game player explores large maps with quite open structure. The gameplay focuses on fighting, both with cold and ranged weapons. A lot of gadgets were also given to the player, including traps and bottles with acid, which can be thrown at enemies.

We can also use a simple stealth system. The game is enriched by platform and puzzle challenges. The game has also RPG elements. The world of Hedon Bloodrite is inhabited by many NPCs with whom we can talk. It is also densely filled with optional side quests, and our decisions and actions affect the development of the story. In addition, from time to time we take part in battles, where we lead a small army of female warriors from the Iron Division into battle.

Game modes

The game has only single player mode. Instead, it offers six difficulty levels, which differ not only in the strength of enemies, but also in their types and locations of items on the maps.

Technical aspects

Hedon Bloodrite is built on the GZDoom engine, a fan-made, heavily upgraded version of the technology used in the first two installments of the Doom series. The graphics combine old-school elements, such as simple level architecture and 2D sprite enemies, with modern effects and dynamic lighting.
