An online strategy game from the Bohemian studio Trickster Art, in which we take part in a global cyberwar of hackers. We choose a country to side with, and then hack the networks of its opponents, while also developing our web infrastructure and prevent other hackers from attacking it. Gameplay consist of several missions, in which we break into computer systems, which requires using various tools, programs, viruses etc.
Hackers is an online strategy game available for AND and iOS, in which we can take part in an international cyberwar. The game was developed by a Czech studio called Trickster Arts, founded by developers working on Mafia II. They have made a successful debut with the highly acclaimed Hero of Many.
Mechanics
In Trickster Arts' game, we represent our country in the hacker war. Our task is to hack enemy systems while expanding our own network infrastructure and making it systematically immune to attacks of enemy hackers. The game consists of a series of missions, during which we receive specific tasks related to hacking into the systems, and we do it using a variety of network tools, programs, viruses, etc. The complexity of the missions increases with the progress of the game, leaving players a lot of freedom in choosing the methods of action. We can hack into a system and alert everyone or act quietly, staying in hiding as long as possible. Apart from hacking our rivals' systems, we also have to constantly develop our own network infrastructure and create better hacking tools.
Technical aspects
Unlike most hacker games, where the gameplay is based on typing commands and the interface consists mainly of texts, Hackers, released on AND and iOS, is based on a more modern visual style. We receive individual missions on a well-animated model of the globe, and the entire network infrastructure in which we move is built of a series of three-dimensional models, symbolizing individual modules and tools. The gradually developed network can also be freely rotated and viewed from any angle - an option that cannot be overestimated when hacking very complex systems.
