Guardian Codex is a mobile RPG released for AND and iOS. It uses free-to-play distribution model with microtransactions. The title was developed by one of the Japanese teams of Square Enix that previously created popular card games Guardians Cross and Deadman’s Cross.
Plot
The game takes place in year 2030. The vision of the future presented by the developers is much different from the current predictions. In the world of Guardian Codex for AND and iOS the whole planet is split between the Empire and the Resistance. The latter is pushed to defense and forced to use a different tactic. They resistance is sending their agents to the titular Codex, a virtual version of the past.
The player assumes the role of one of such agents and is tasked with finding the legendary creatures known as Guardians. He must take them to the real world and use in fight against the Empire.
Mechanics
The gameplay mechanics of Guardian Codex for AND and iOS are similar to ones used in other classic mobile Japanese RPGs. During the game the player is traveling through the world, speaking with other characters, completing quests, developing characters and fighting. The turn-based fighting system is very important in the game.
Defeating the Guardians and making them join player’s party is vital part of the gameplay. There are many types of guardians in Guardian Codex and the gameplay is focused on collecting and developing them like in Pokemon series.
Game modes
The title enables the player to play alone or to join forces with up to three other users in cooperative multiplayer mode.
