Grow Home

Grow Home is an experimental arcade game for PC and PS4 that focuses on climbing. It was developed by Ubisoft Reflections, the creators of The Crew, the Driver series and the first two installments of the Destruction Derby series.

We play as a small robot called BUD. His task is to travel the galaxy in search of new species of plants and take them back to his creators’ planet in order to increase the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere. During one of the journeys, the robot reaches a world composed of numerous levitating islands. BUD can move between them thanks to a unique plant called Star Plant. It is characterized by a remarkable vegetation speed. By controlling the direction of its vines’ and branches’ growth, we create way to subsequent, previously unavailable isles full of valuable resources and items, and eventually – our ship.

In Grow Home, the gameplay focuses on world exploration. The locations are designed in a way that forces frequent climbing. This aspect is very complex and allows us to control both hands of the protagonist separately. This feature is available thanks to a special physics engine that procedurally generates character animation – BUD is capable of grabbing pretty much every environment element that sticks out. For this reason, the developers recommend using a gamepad, although it is possible to play with a keyboard and a mouse.

Grow Home for PC and PS4 has 3D graphics. The developers chose a simple, yet attractive visual style that is full of bright monochrome surfaces.
